Foss Science

Greetings from Science

As the year draws to a close, students throughout the building are working away on science activities. Kindergartners will be working on identifying and observing a variety of Fabrics. First graders are experimenting and examining organisms of all kinds from plants to fish and maybe even a few insects. Second graders patiently are awaiting the arrival of their first shipment of insects. They will observe and care for mealworms, painted lady larva, and more! Third graders are looking forward to studying the Structures of Life, including plants and animals. Currently, fourth graders are making discoveries on the solar system. Soon they will work with a mix of white powders to determine what types of reactions can be made in Chemical Tests. Looking toward the sun is what fifth graders will be doing shortly. Solar energy includes investigations that look at the changes in temperatures that affect soil, sand and water. Sixth graders will be shaping the land, working with Issues and Earth Science. They are comparing the erosion line of real places and examining plate tectonics. Seventh graders will be looking inward at Our Genes, Our Selves through Science and Life Issues. Discussions will include genetic conditions and information about diseases like Marfan’s Syndrome. Eighth graders are wrapping up discussions and experiments with Force and Motion. Energy will be their final topic for investigation before they cross that stage and move on to bigger and better experiments.
